Innovative methods and ICT competencies for cultural sector employees

About

Many cultural sector employees work outside big cities and increased digital skills and knowledge in design-thinking are pivotal for them in reaching a bigger number of audience and clientele. Also, many cultural sector employees are already older and may lack necessary digital skills to succeed in today’s work environment. Thus, the project also  aims at increased equality and inclusion, offering cultural workers better opportunities despite their age, gender, or location (or other impacting factors, like physical disabilities). Furthermore, according to the “Survey of the South Estonia Cultural Organizers” conducted in 2020, cultural organizers found it difficult to create and maintain partnerships both within and between different sectors (both on national and international level.) To illustrate this, 40% of the respondents found the cooperation with local businesses to be very wear or non-existent and 26% found same for the cooperation with social sector. Also, 46% of respondents had not taken part in any international projects during the last 3 years.

Why this?

The project supports one of the main aims of the ECFC – to shape and provide professional development opportunity being a competent cultural organizers and cultural sector specialists using various up-skilling training options. COVID-19 has brought along many changes in work organization and a sense of uncertainty for the people involved in the sector. As the “Survey of the South Estonia Cultural Organizers” has shown, the need for information and new knowledge about innovative technological solutions to reorganize the sector’s work has grown explosively. The needs are multifaceted, from mapping and wording IT and technological needs to acquiring skills on using web-based collaboration and teamwork platforms to be motivated and work effectively in virtual communities.
