We are incredibly excited to announce the official launch of INCLUSIVE-UNI, a new and transformative project dedicated to fostering a culture of equity and diversity within higher education. This ambitious initiative, funded by the prestigious Erasmus+ Programme, is a collaborative effort between dedicated partners from across Europe. The project’s full title, “Promoting Inclusive Campuses for Equity and Diversity,” clearly states our collective mission: to equip universities with the tools and strategies they need to become more welcoming and inclusive spaces for all. This is not merely a project; it’s a commitment to building a more equitable and understanding academic community for the future.

What is INCLUSIVE-UNI and How Will We Achieve Our Goals?

The INCLUSIVE-UNI project is designed to address the pressing need for greater inclusion and diversity within universities. Our core objective is to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to create educational and administrative environments where every individual feels a sense of belonging. The project will achieve this through a series of carefully designed work packages that will produce tangible, open-access resources for the wider academic community.

Our work will involve several key activities, beginning with the development of face-to-face training programs for both academic and non-academic staff. These programs will be tailored to promote inclusive teaching practices, enrich staff’s awareness of diversity, and develop their inclusive behaviors on campuses. We will also create a comprehensive online learning environment through a 4-module MOODLE course that will be accessible to academic and non-academic staff alike. To ensure our work has a lasting impact, we will design a guidebook of inclusive practices, which will serve as a practical resource for universities looking to implement their own strategies. The project also aims to foster academic and non-academic staff’s intercultural competence, facilitating more effective communication and collaboration in increasingly diverse settings.

Our Target Audience and Expected Impact

INCLUSIVE-UNI project is strategically focused on two main target audiences: academic staff and non-academic staff within higher education institutions. We recognize that fostering inclusion is a shared responsibility, and by targeting both of these groups, we can create a powerful, institution-wide effect. Academic staff will be empowered with innovative teaching practices, while non-academic staff will be equipped to handle daily interactions with students and colleagues in a more inclusive and compassionate manner. Our work is particularly relevant to countries that are seeing a rise in international students and need to address the challenges of a more diverse population.

We anticipate a wide-ranging impact that extends far beyond our consortium. The open-access nature of our planned outputs—including the training programs, the online course, and the guidebook—means that our project will not be limited to the partner institutions. We expect our resources to be a valuable tool for primary, secondary, and vocational education systems as well. Ultimately, the long-term benefit of the INCLUSIVE-UNI project is to empower young people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds , helping them to succeed not only in their academic lives but in their careers and communities as well. By addressing barriers to inclusion, we believe our project has the potential to promote social cohesion and a more equitable society.
